The Combat Marine Outdoors storybegan in 2005 after visiting combatwounded Marines and Sailors fromthe 1st Marine Division at BrookeArmy Medical Center for severalmonths. The Marines, Sailors andservice members there needed anopportunity to get away from thehospital, in an environment offriendship, camaraderie, andfellowship with fellow Marines toaccelerate their recovery from thetraumatic injuries they sustained incombat. Many times, these servicemembers did not want to leave theconfines of the hospital, but it was(and is) crucial to begin to reinculcate back into society.
In everycase, the service members whoparticipated in the outings felt anenormous sense of accomplishmentand a new sense of hope andbelonging once the trip wascompleted. In 2009, we received our501(c)(3)nonprofit status and officiallybecame Combat Marine Outdoors.The camaraderie, friendship andfellowship associated with eachouting have had an incredible healingproperty, and many times, were aturning point in the emotionalrecovery of these service members.We continue to provide life-changingoutdoor adventures to these braveheroes and we have approximately100 ranches who actively participatein the program. To date, we havetaken over 10,000 combat Veteranson the adventure of a lifetime
